TRIBUTES TO CO-FOUNDER BERNARD SMITH
Station manager Ian Green has led the tributes to one of Radio Gwendolen's founder members, Bernard Smith, whose death was announced recently.
Mr. Smith set up the station - together with Ray Lovejoy - in 1974.
Ian said "Bernard set up this radio station with just the most basic of equipment and for that he shall always have our thanks and admiration".
Former manager Dave Willcocks added "very sad news, we lose a man who helped to set up something that has been a comfort for so many."
Radio Gwendolen's members extend their sincere sympathies to Bernard's family.
Former Radio Gwendolen member Sheila Walsh has passed away after a lengthy illness. Sheila was involved with the station during the 1990's - and despite being in constant pain due to her chronic arthritis, it never affected her ability to be one of the station's stalwarts.
Station Manager Ian Green said the pain "never got her down....she was always full of fun and her smile lit up the studio"
Radio Gwendolen's Jon Stocker has stepped down as Chairman, after 12 years in the position. Station Manager Ian Green paid tribute to Jon's hard work in the role, at the station's recent AGM.
Jon - who has huge thanks from the entire team - will remain an important member of Radio Gwendolen.
Dave Burrell takes over the role as Chairman.
Meet Radio Gwendolen's new studio engineer - Haroon Dean. Haroon has been instrumental in launching the station's new webstreaming service. Manager Ian Green said "We give a warm welcome to Haroon.......Already, he has proven himself to be a valuable member of the station. Thank you Haroon."
